“There was a man wan time living in the Co. Wexford....”
There was a man wan time living in the Co. Wexford and he was an awful man for gambling. He used to be gambling and betting over anything. He would bet over anything. He often bet with another man that the next day would be fine of wet as the case might be. He used to bet on racing and on boxing and on all sorts of games. Anyhow this man got old and got sick, and the priest was sent for and he came. The priest heard his confession and prepared him for the next world, telling him that he need not fear; that he was after making a very good confession, but he also told him that he had a very bad life and told him that gambling and betting were the worst ways of spending a life.
"Well now" says the dying man I'm prepared for the next world and all I have to do is to die."(continues on next page)
