    around the fire, and have the fireplace swept
    and clean.
    Our old woman in Ballinvoher when her husband died
    she used fill the pipe and leave it on the hob for
    him, for the believed he'd come ever night and
    he was very fond of a smoke. Some one of the
    family used smoke the pipe when the old
    woman was in bed, and she always believed
    'twas the old man was at it.

    There was a man by the name of Johnny Walsh...

    There was a man by the name of Johnny Walsh
    and he used always come in to my Grandfather's
    house in kilally. He used come in Scoruidiaeling
    every night himself and few neighbours. One night, 'twas
    a lovely moonlight night and me mother went out
    to the door. She had a stocking that in
    her hand and she knitting it. She went out
    and looked around and walked up and down the yard. This Johnny Walsh, anyway jumped up and walked out. Me mother met him in the
    yard and said: "Sure isn't home you're going sp
    early, Johnny!" He passed her by and
    made her no answer.
    He didn't come to the house for six or seven
