    tree he heard a voice crying: "Oh, Jack will you take me down?"
    "How will I manage to do it?" says Jack.
    Take that rod there at the trunk of the tree and strike it three times on the trunk of the tree and I will be fine."
    Jack took the rod and struck the tree three times with it and down came the snatching hangman and in he runs into the castle and away with him with the girl under his arm. Of course the giant was asleep and he never wared what was happening.
    When Jack saw the girl going off under the Snatching hangman's arm he began to shout and bawl, and woke the giant. The giant came tearing out into the garden where Jack was, and asked what was after happening to him.
    "Oh," says Jack, "the man in the tree is gone with the girl" says he.
    "If so you'll hardly ever see her again" says the giant to him.
    "Oh yes I will", says Jack, "for I'll never stay quiet or aisy 'til I find her."
    "Well, there is one chance" says the giant, "and
