  1. Antrim John

    CBÉ 0265

was mention of his name in an
    old ballad to this effect.
"An as they (soldiers) came down the glen they met a youngster & the Captain cried out "Did you see Holt & his men"
(Jack Darcy son of Nixon's [slayer?]
told Tom this story of Dwyer - )
    Dwyer went into Baltinglass
one day to see some kind of
    garrison walls they were after
building & as he was facing
for home again he met two
    soldiers that were after chasing
    him hotly after M'Allister was
shot - and they were [linking?]
two girls & he made some joke
upon them & whatever they said
  2. Antrim John

    CBÉ 0265

He went into Oliver cases wife one
day for a drink & she gave him a
mug of cream & he said God bless
her. She said that her husband
was after going for his brother
to take him prisoner but Dwyer
was not a bit put about. "Is
he not man enough to do it
    himself" was all he said
The boys took Oliver Case out
one evening after & hung him
    outside of Baltinglass.
  3. Antrim John

    CBÉ 0265

he shot one of them beside the
girl and the other fellow jumped
up on a ditch on the poor
house road & he shot him with
the other barrell of a double horse
    pistol. The girls ran screaming
into Baltinglass when the two boys
fell & a whole regiment of horse
soldiers came out after him but
Dwyer only went a few perch
away from the bodies & threw
himself in a heap of briars &
they never saw him. He said himself
he thought he felt the horses'
    feet touch his head they
came so close to him. He
    should have been very
    undaunted.
