- The farmer usually sows about an acre and a half or two acres of ground under the potato crop each year. First it is ploughed in the month of February or March and made into ridges or drills then the farmer manures it and sows the slits. Then when the potatoes are growing the farmer sprays them in the months of June, July and September to keep away the blight. There are several kinds of potatoes grown in my district namely the arran Bannars, epicures, Champions, Kerrs Pinks, Dates, Queens and Flounders.
