    Shrove Tuesday
    On Shrove Tuesday the people used to have a feast of pan-cakes and punch.
    St Bridget's Eve.
    On Saint Bridget's Eve the people make "Saint Bridget's Crosses" of straw or of rushes. They make a cross every year, and they put it up on the ceiling.
    The boys get a doll, and they go from one house to another asking for money.
