The flax was made into Linen. It was grown from seed and was pulled from the roots when grown. It was allowed to stand for a week or two to season, When it was seasoned, it was put into water with weights over it to keep it under the water. It was left there for about ten days, and it then was taken out. The sheaves were then loosened out and spread out to dry. It was again bound into sheaves and placed over a fire to dry. It was then scutched with short sharp edged boards, called scutching handles. It was then spun into thread and sent to the weaver and made into Linen. This Linen was made into towels and sheets.
