which the were to get the would like to meet a man first the say a woman is considered unlucky. People remember marriages having taking place in the houses. It is about a hundred years ago. Long ago the night before the marriage the would have a wedding for them. The straw boys would come to the house on that night looking for porter and whiskey. They would come into the house and dance a half-set and bring the newly married woman with them. There would be a couple of people from every house in the locality in it that night. Long ago when a young couple would get married the would fling the tongs after them for luck. The also used to make an oat-meal cake and break it on the girls head for luck.
