- During the famine years the English government made grants for relief works in the practice of road-building. At that time large numbers of people who could work were employed building roads in the vicinity of Kiltimagh.
The present road known as George's Street was constructed as far back as the Canbrack School, and branches of trees were conveyed from Ballinamore woods to form its foundation as the ground was all bog. In Chapel Street there was then a steep hill which was cut to fill up a hollow(continues on next page)- Collector
