    the street of Swinford for four pence and six pence a pound. There were not any pigs killed like nowadays, but they had to buy the bacon when they were able. Sometimes butter was melted with the tongs over the potatoes which the children got sometimes. The potatoes were peeled by their fingers and a little salt put on them which they ate with contented minds. No lunches were served but just when they came in in the evening they got a little oat bread and new milk and nothing again until the next morning.
    They were a healthy hardworking race, never got sick and if they did it was little care or trouble was taken if them, but out into the fields they went the next day. The oat cake was made
