    Lighting the firs. People do not like to light the fire early on May Day, lest the fairies see the smoke. In case it is necessary to light it early, put a pieace of the Round- berry tree (called bush) in the fire. This prevents the fairies seeing the smoke.
    There is a belief that the fairies are out on the night before May-day.
