- Long ago there used to be a lot of tinkers in the country. The way the tinkers came from first is easily known. Long ago when money was not plentiful the poor people had nothing to eat. They started going about begging. The people used to not like giving them anything because they said it was not lucky. The tinkers started doing odd jobs for the people and they used to get an oatmeal cake or a drop of buttermilk. On Christmas night the people used to give the tinkers food and shelter(continues on next page)
