- Sgeach Garraidhe na gCrann
Near this fort, in a green acre field called Garraidhe na gCrann, stands an ancient hawthorn tree, which is regarded with superstitious awe, and is believed to be the abode of "the good people".A local man went to cut down a branch of this Sgeach. A sharp strange voice, speaking in Gaedhilg bade abandon his task when he had begun to cut the bush. He looked round in amazement but saw no one. He began his cutting again but was suddenly assailed by a most violent head-ache.So bad was it that he was forced to go home and take to his bed.A month later his funeral passed by the boreen adjacent to Garraidhe na gCrann.Everyone attributed his death to his interference with the Sgeach in Garraidhe na gCrann.- Collector
