- In the winter time of the year, we house all the milch cows, and calves. We have two cows, a black and a red. We get our supply of milk and butter nearly all the year from them. One of them doesn't dry atall [sic] until she calves.
In summer time we churn twice a week, and in winter time we only make one churning in the week.
They are bedded with straw and rushes. In the morning they get a mash of meal or clarendo. Then their beds are cleaned away from them, and swept away. After that they are milked. Some of the cows are awful pets they won't give you milk until they get their mash first. Then we bring the milk to the house, and strain it, and put it into the milk pans.
After that we drive them to their pastures. When we are driving then we say "hi" or "go on."(continues on next page)- Collector
