- There is a pretty lake situated in the Ox mts in County Sligo, from which the Easky river flows. The river itself is noted for its salmon, but though there is no difficulty to prevent them entering the lake itself, no salmon was ever found in its waters. There is an old legend in the district which purports to account for this.
St Patrick when crossing from Mayo into Sligo crossed this stream at the point where it issues from the lake and in doing so slipped on a salmon and fell into the stream. He is then stated to have cursed the salmon (a strange proceeding for a saint) and from that out no salmon ever passed that spot.- Collector
