- There is the ruin of an old castle about two miles from where I live in the townland of Ballyheena. It was built by the Geraldines in the fifteenth century. It is the only one of its kind in this country now. It is built on the bank of the river Licky so that the inhabitants could get to it by water as well as by land. There is only one wall of it standing now and that one is now covered with ivy. It is a stone building and the walls are about three feet thick. It was knocked by Cromwell in the 17th century.
