Weddings were carried on in many different forms and customs some years ago. Often in those times the pair getting married never saw or heard of each other until they met at the church because it was the custom of the old people to go and fix the match and the young people were satisfied. A wedding in those times lasted about a week and was always a scene of great amusement, singing, dancing and drinking.
Drink was then very cheap and nearly everyone at the wedding was drunk. It was a custom for the bride to wear something borrowed from a friend on the wedding day as a token of friendship.
