- Long ago when people were at the age of marriage people used to come on Shrove Tuesday. If there was a man living by himself someone would come around and draw a woman on the wall with tar so that no-one could take it off. If it was a woman that was living in the house they would draw a man on the wall.
In years gone by it was considered a crime if a man married a girl who had not a fortune equal to his farm and possessions. There was an old saying as regards match-making - "Is fearr bean ná spré ach i dteannta a chéile is fearr iad".
People say that Wednesday and Friday are two unlucky days to get married.- Collector
