- Fairs are usually held in the larger towns in each county. There are certain fixed for the fairs—such as the second of every month for the fair of Ballyshannon. The buyers from the surrounding towns come in to purchase horses, cows, pigs, and other animals that are offered for sail.
Sometime these buyers go out into the country houses and offer prices for cattle etc., but the farmer usually prefers to sell his stock at the fair. The buyers often meet the sellers outside the town and make offers but the farmer likes to hear the market price before selling.
