    Once upon a time there was a poet named Patrick Burke of Clogher (in this district). He used to stay in a house whose owners name was Denis Ward. He was born in the year 1832 and he died in the year 1919. This was one of the poems he made.
    The sunshine of the sea, and the emerald of the lea.
    And the ever-smiling skies, charm not heart nor soul nor eyes.
    Like the grasp of friendships hand, like the welcome warm and bland.
    As the sunshine gleaming o'er, the happy homes of sweet Glandore.
    Time may chill and bow and bend,
    glowing heart and chainless mind.
    They droop, the flowers of fancy youth,
    round the ripening fruits of truth.
