- In the penal days when the churches were closed Mass was celebrated in the open air in the Glens and valleys. I know of three places in Mulnamina where it was read, lóig a teampuill, púrtahurry and Mulnamina beag.
There is a Mass rock also in Mulnamina and Father Gallagher who was in Glenties gave liberty to the people to make the jubilee at it about thirty years ago.
Then priests were hunted out of Kilkenny and the Chapel was burned and tossed. Five pounds was the price on a priest's head and the same on the wolf's to get them banished. In those days the priests had to wear plain clothes like an ordinary man.(continues on next page)- Collector
