- There was a fair held in olden times in a place called Stacán in the townland of Dooey.
The reason that these fairs were held in backward places was because the farmers were not able to pay the rent and if they would take their cattle to a Public Fair the Landlord’s bailiffs would lift them.
The buyers used not to come to the houses buying cattle. They came to the fairs. The cattle were put in a field to keep them together. There was a sort of red clay called Keel and the cattle were marked with this clay.
These fairs ceased to be when the Landlords days were over.- Collector
