- Mrs Mary Boyle is dead now. She was a long way over seventy when she died and she is a couple of years dead. Her husband is still alive and he told me this story about his wife.
Mary was reared in the townland of Kilcrin. Her father was a handy man and worked some at building and doing carpenter work. One time he was working in the townland of "Stra-Buidh" and he forgot his hammer. He sent Mary to the place he was working for the hammer. When she was coming back he had to pass a Sphynk in the townland of "Banabuidh". She looked up and there she saw a great many wee folk dressed in red jackets. They had a fiddle and one was playing. The others were dancing. She stopped to listen to the music as it was so heavenly. After a time the music stopped and they signed to her to go on. She then went home.Mary's father was given to drinking too much of the bottle when he would go to the fair in Glenties.
It was usual for Mary to go with him. This day her father was half shot and they were coming home by Derrylothan. There were others on the road but hey stopped at Derrylohan(continues on next page)- Collector
