- (continued from previous page)flails. There were three parts in the flail. The flails are used yet but are not as common as before the mills were made.
- Old people long ago used to make dye for dying their woollens out of stuff called crottle which they used to get growing on the rocks.
Candles long ago were made out of rushes, they used peel the rush and then leave the white part to harden while steeped in some sort of liquid grease.
People used make baskets and some still make them of sally rods.
Straw harness the people used to have and in some places in Ireland yet, they use these. Wooden ploughs the people in olden times ploughed their lands with, these were made out of fir. All their ropes were made out of straw.
In olden times the people used to spin and weave all their own clothes and also their blankets.
Their pot-hooks long ago were made out of wire. All their nails were made out of wire.
Before thrashing mills came to this country people used do their thrashing with flails.
