To make a whip they cut a rod in the wood and cleaned it. Then they took flax strings and plaited them into a lash and tied it on to the whip.
In olden times nails were made of wire and wooden pegs.
They used to make their own starch out of potatoes. - There is a man named Willie Hay of Glack who can make very nice baskets. There used to be a woman in Carnamaddy named Cassie Mc Fadden who was a good spinner. James Mc Clafferty of Feymore used to be a good weaver. In olden times the women used get stuff off the rocks called crottle. They used boil this stuff and when it would be boiled it would be a yellow colour. This stuff then would do for dying anything they liked. Long ago the men used thatch the houses with lint, bent, rushes and stuff they used get in the mountains which was like hay.
