    Christmas time a good many turkeys, geese, ducks and chickens exchange hands at the fair. In the evening the "Kenters" as they are called start to display their wares. They sometimes start an article for a pound and sell it for half-a-crown. The balad singers sing some comic songs and often relate a "Ship-Wreck at Sea" or a "False lovers fate". Then Paddy passes round the hat and lifts a collection to get himself a little refreshment. There are about four hiring fairs. Letterkenny fair is the principle hiring fair in the North. A great many boys and girls getting employment with the farmers. Long ago when there was no means of transport, people had to walk to these
