- First the ground is ploughed in November or December. Sometimes the manure is put in heaps on the field a couple of months before it is ploughed. After the ground is ploughed it is harrowed. The harrows are made up of a frame of wood and a great many irons going through it. The ground is harrowed to make the soil fine. It is drilled then. The drills are made with a drilling plough. The drilling plough is much the same as a plough. The ground is drilled to make it neat and also to make it easy to work in. The woman of the house cut the potatoes.
