- Once upon a time there was a man whose name was James Laird. He lived in Raphoe but he spent the most of his time around Legnahoorey. He used to pay visits to our house very often, and he used to tell us about the long journeys he walked. He told us that he once walked from Raphoe to Dublin and when he was half way the soles were worn off his boots. He sat down by the roadside to put soles on them. He had no hammer or last but he got a stone out of the ditch which served as a last, and another stone which served as a hammer. Then he put soles on his boots and continued his journey to Dublin.
