- Some people remember the talk of their fathers about the Great Famine which occured about ninety years ago. They tell a lot of stories about it and how it effected the district so sorely.
During this time the people of the district would (da) gather together in some certain place every day and make a big boiler of porridge. This would be divided and everyone would get a bowlful for everyone in the house. Other times they would walk for miles gathering stuff called presha. This would bloom in the summer with a yellow blossom and the people would gather burders and boil it for the family. Other times they would gather bent roots from along the sea shore.
