Oat meal was wet with water nearly boiling and worked with the hand until sodden. It was then pressed out into a thin cake about a quarter of an inch thick.
It was left over at night on a board.
Next day it was put up before the fire on what we call a bredd iron.
This was made out of round iron with a clasp stay at the back.
In about half an hour the cake was ready for use.
