    Then the meal was placed in a "bin". Some people would not use this meal until it would be half a year old.
    In those days when you would go into a house you would always see a big circular cake of oaten bread hardening before the fire. You would fast from morning to night on this bread. Potatoe-cake is another kind of bread or they had or as it was locally called "Fadge".
    The people of my district had very little knowledge of vegetable-growing. They only vegetables they used were cabbage and turnips and there were not fit for human consumption.
    Milk was very plentyful in this district. From the cream of the milk butter was made. They fed the cows on dandilions which are said to be very good for milk production.
    Beef was very scarce in those days. An old saying is Glory be to Christmas the time we get the "beef" for it
