    at Gortnaclassagh. This road was well formed and well laid out about twenty feet wide and about two miles long, passing through the townland of Druimgoony and Gortnaclassagh.
    Through the old villages of Druim - na - Hohial, Bool Inary and and Derryummera to the main road between Newport and Castlebar. It was made under a relief scheme. The men who worked on it were paid thus. There were two large boilers erected on a great fire a few hundred apart which, boiled Indian meal gruel. Each worksman got a small tin of gruel each day and that is the wages he earned for his
