- Local Marriage CustomsMore marriages take place in the month of May in Rush than during the rest of the year. The reason for this is that a long time ago the local landlord invested a sum of N money and the interest on this sum was to be divided between five girls who got married in the month of May. The girls had to be born on the estate but the husband could come from any part of the country. Some years ago the sum divided was very small and each couple received about five pounds. At present the sum received by each couple is about £20. The Parish Priest and the Protestant Minister are in charge of this sum. If five couples do not get married what is left is given to some poor girl for a trade. The unlucky days for getting married in this parish are Friday and Saturday. May is supposed to be the luckiest month for getting married in this parish. When q a girl gets married other than those who received the May(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
