We have no land therefore we grow no potatoes.
I know that when the ground is prepared and made into drills it is manured. It is very seldom potatoes are sown in ridges but in drill. A plough is used when the land is tilled once or twice before but the first time it is dug with a spade.
A spade is not made in these parts but is bought in shops. The farmers leaves a few feet between every drill.
Potatoes are set about a foot apart. When the stalk comes up about a foot over the drills then more clay is put on them.(continues on next page)- Collector
