- There were many sorts of old crafts long ago. In the making of candles people got the tallow out of beef-fat which was melted. Then they got a hollow pipe and put the wick through it and stuck a piece of stick in each end. The wick was knotted to these sticks to keep it firm. Next the tallow was poured into the tube and left for a day or so to dry and harden. That was a difficult was to make candles. People now have machinery(continues on next page)
