Once upon a time, long, long time ago there lived an old black-smith close to the Turlach. He used to do a lot of thankyou work and used to receive no pay. As he was smoking his old dúidín, a fine gentleman rode down on a steed, the old bóithirín near the Turlach and he asked Jack to shoe his horse. He said he had no money to pay him. Who are you? said Jack. I am a messanger from Heaven. I will give you any three gifts you will take "Very well" said Jack. The first gift I ask of you, if anyone come in to my forge his hands may grip to the sledge and the sledge to grip to the anvel. All the prime boys come bothering me.
