    In the side of the churn there is a little hole, and a little stick called a "plug" stuck in it, so that, when the butter is made, the butter-milk can flow out without having to take off the lid.
    The first thing that is done with the milk, after being milked, is to strain it. This is done for fear of any dust being in the milk. Then it is separated, and the good milk is put to set in a crock, and the rest is kept for the use of the family, or to feed the calves.
    This is continued until the crock is filled, and then the cream is ready for churning. The cream is put into the churn, and the churning is started.
