- In former times about seventy years ago, boys and girls were nineteen or twenty years before they began to wear shoes or boots.
Children go barefoot in summer now, but wear boots in Spring, Autumn, and Winter.
The water used for washing feet is thrown out lest the fairies would be about the house during the night. If any member of the family is out he is supposed to be going astray all night when the water is thrown out.
Leather was made in this locality as we have a pond of water called "Poll a Leathair."
There was a tannery in Gort Inse Guaire owned by the Lahiffs.
