- There is a fort in Ballincurry. Sometime before Pollock owned this townland there were one hundred families living there. They challenged the Crosswell's to bet them in a hurling match. When it came to the appointed time the Ballincurry's were afraid. They went to the fort and said "Queen of the fairies, Help us. The hurling match started and the Crosswells never struck one blow on the ball. With the result Ballincurry won and ever after they never asked to do away with the Fairies it is believed that the forts were used by the Danes for signalling to one another for where there is one there is another in sight for instance:- There is one in Gort a finne and from that you(continues on next page)
