  1. Bhí Rí ann uair amháin a raibh triúr mac aige.
    Nuair a bhí an Rí an-lag roinn sé an talamh ar fad idir a thriúr mac. An mac ba shine bhí an talamh ag dul dó agus an t-airgead don dara mac ach ní raibh le fágháil ag an mac ab óige ach cat.
    "Ochón ó" arsa an mac ab óige "níl slighe bheatha ar bith agamsa".
    Nuair a mharbhóchas mé mo chat agus nuair a dhéanfas mé cupán súgha dá chuid feola ní fhéadfa mé maireachtáil ar bith a dhéanamh.
    Chuala an cat a mháighistir ag caint. "Bíodh ciall agat a mháighistir" arsa an cat "cuirfe mé geall leat gur saidhbhir an fear a bheas ionat má thugann tú mála agus péire bróg domsa.
    Thug sé na bróga agus an mála don chat ansin.
