- There are many stories told of fierce animals which lived in Ireland long ago but the most strange and sorrowful ever told happened at Glenade Lake. The story is told that about three hundred years ago a woman named Mrs Mc Loughlin went to the lake shore to wash clothes. When she was a long time away her husband went to look for her. He found her dead and a strange animal lying on her dead body. Filled with terror and grief he ran back to his house and got his sword. He came back and killed the animal but when he was dying he let a strange cry or whistle and another animal of the same kind came out from the lake and chased the man.
