- There is the ruins of an old church in this district. The church was built in the sixth century by a man the name of O'Rourke. This church flourished until for six hundred years. At that time a band of Benedictine monks came to the church and got it knocked and built it in the new. They lived there for a long time. There was a school at it also and it was to that school that the people of Tarmon went. The chieftain of Tarmon left eight townland to pay for the upkeep of the church. There was a chieftain living at Corry then whose name was Garret Forde. Cromwells soldiers were going through the(continues on next page)
