- People lived in mud-wall houses with thatched gables and roofs.
Rushes were used for thatch also straw. The old houses had a "press bed" in kitchen. The fireplace was at the gable wall. The front of chimney was made of mortar and stones.
There were houses with no chimney, just holes in the roof.
Floors were made from mud.
Half doors are still common.
