    Smith, in treating of the Fitzmaurices, says that Clan Maurice had its name from Maurice, son of Raymond Le Gros, who married Basilia, daughter to Eve, daughter of Earl Strongbow.

    Patrick the succeeding Lord, fled to England, all his family and retainers having turned against him in civil war.
    The only member of the family about whom there is any authentic record of being buried in the well known monument beside Lixnaw is Thomas, first Earl of Kerry. In all probability, his successor, William, the second Earl.
    Honor, the wife of Patrick referred to above, returned to Ireland after his death, but found the ancient burial place in the Abbey at Ardfest irrecoverable. She then purchased the right of sepulchre from the Dignataries
