One of the most noted fairs is Monoughan Day which is held on the 25th February in Mohill. The horses and pigs fairs are held on the street and the cattle fair is held on the green. Toll & has to be paid on sold cattle. Luck money is always given and it is called a 'Luck Penny'. The seller asks his price and the buyer bids him a price and then they split the difference.
Animals are sometimes marked with a sissors or a saddle if farmers buy who have not these instruments mark with mud. The halter or rope is never given away unless it is a neighbour who buys.
Special fairs are often held for sale of horses, sheep and cattle. Some time ago there to be a pig fair in Dromod. A certain man sent word to all the noted dealers to attend at Dromod fair giving them a wrong date. All the men attended but there was no fair when the arrived there.
