This church was built by St Morris in the sixth century. On the other side of the shannon stands the ruins of another church called Kilbarry. It was built in the same century by St Barry. It is said those two Saints worked together. When they had part of one church finished they would cross the Shannon in a small boat and build a piece of Kilbarry and that was how they succeeded in building the two churches which are now in ruins.
