- There are no local fairs. They are all held in the towns. Sometimes the buyers (jobbers) come to the house to buy cattle. The town fairs are held in Mohill and Cloone green.There is a toll paid on cattle that are sold to Henry Nicholl. He bought the right to collect tolls from Major Crofton of Lakefield house Mohill. When an animal is sold the buyer gets a couple of shillings "Luck." Sometimes cattle are sold "Free to Pocket" which means that there is no Luck to be given back - Teacher's noteWhen a bargin is made the parties concerned show their agreement by striking hands. Sometimes they are marked with a kind of chalk known as raddle paint. Sometimes they clip a bit of hair off them with a sissors. They also mark them with cow dung.
