As they proceeded to Ballinamuck they had to throw their cannons into Keeldra lough because their horses could not draw them any farther with the ropes used instead of the lost chains. As they did not wish to leave the cannons on the roadside so that the English could get possession of them, they threw them into Keeldra lake.
