    getting too hot for the boy to stay in it. Suddenly he threw off the cover of the boiler and jumped out of it and ran out the door so quickly that the gentleman thought he was the devil.
    'Now have not Catholics power?, said John, 'and you can be thankful to me for driving the devil from your house.'
    The gentleman said nothing but left him there.
    Another short story is told about John while he was residing in Kilflynn.
    There was a Parson there whose name was Kid. One day John was walking in the Parson's field and the Parson came out and addressed him as follows:
    'Do you know that you are trespassing in my field?' said the Parson.
    'I do not,' said John, 'I am a stranger her.'
