market themselves wherever their market was. Some people took the firkins on their backs and those who had horses and carts them in them. This home-made butter fetched a great price in Cork, and it was by this the people mostly made their living. In later years the methods of making butter improved and became easier. Then the creameries were built and since they have got no trouble in making it, because the whole thing is done by machinery and steam.

The Brick has got its name from one of the monks who lived in the old abbey which is about half a mile from the village.
One day when Cromwell came and attacked the abbey all the monks were killed but one was saved.
